The Minority has welcomed the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi but insists the gains must reflect in the everyday lives of citizens, particularly through a reduction in the cost of living.

Speaking at a Leaders' Media Briefing on Tuesday May 28, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei noted that while the cedi's appreciation against major foreign currencies-particularly the U.S.

dollar-has been widely praised, its impact on the daily lives of Ghanaians remains limited. "Everybody is happy that the cedi has become very strong, the exchange rate is coming down," she said. "But what is its effect on the cost of living despite the gains that we are experiencing?" She called on the government to implement practical measures to ensure that the improved exchange rate results in lower prices of goods and services, especially imported items. "It is important that certain actions are taken to ensure that the downward trend of the cedi to the dollar will have a reflection on the cost of living in our country," she added.
