Portia Dzifa Dzilah, an English teacher at Pakro Anglican Basic School in Ghana's Eastern Region, has become the first Ghanaian to win the global title at the 2025 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards.
Outshining eight other regional finalists, Dzilah secured 33% of the global public vote, a testament to the impact she's making in her rural community of Pakro - a town grappling with poverty, absenteeism, and teenage pregnancy.
Her win was announced during a surprise video call from Rod Smith, Managing Director of Cambridge's International Education, turning what started as a regional nomination into a national celebration.
A ceremony at her school soon followed, with applause from students, local leaders, and Cambridge officials.
