The Ghana National Council of Private Schools has welcomed the government's decision to extend the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy to private schools beginning next academic year.
According to the government, the move aims to increase capacity within the education system and gradually phase out the double-track model introduced to manage overcrowding in public schools.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on May 27, Executive Director of the Council, Nana Kwesi Gyetua, expressed the readiness of private institutions to collaborate with the government on the initiative. "If there is a policy that aims to support education in Ghana, then all stakeholders must participate in its implementation.
The main challenge with implementing Free SHS has been infrastructure-and private schools have the infrastructure," he said.
