Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has slammed what he describes as scandalous and immoral salary disparities within Ghana's public sector, calling into question the justification behind paying one worker over GHC62,000 a month, while another earns as little as GHC500.

Pratt referenced a damning new report by ActionAid, which found that public spending cuts across six African countries-including Ghana-have caused health and education sector wages to shrink by up to 50% in just five years.

According to the report, 97% of surveyed workers across Ghana, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi and Liberia are unable to meet basic needs such as food and rent. "These are today's facts.
