Haruna Mohammed, the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has assured the public that the upcoming parliamentary primary in Walewale will be conducted with the utmost integrity and transparency.
This comes after the party announced timelines for the re-run of the parliamentary primary in the Walewale constituency, following a High Court ruling annulling the initial election, won by Dr Mahama Tia Kabiru.
The court's decision, issued on September 2, 2024, has cleared the way for fresh nominations.
A statement signed by the Party's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Monday, September 2, confirmed that nominations will be opened from Tuesday, September 3 to September 5, 2024.
The election is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 8.
Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday, Mohammed emphasised the importance of a fair electoral process, highlighting that every measure will be taken to ensure that the primary is free from any form of malpractice or bias. "My duty is to ensure that we have free and fair elections and also as a national officer of the party to ensure that I engage the youth and let them understand that it is [about] the NPP [and] not any other individual." "I believe that when a fair ground is given and then the decision is made and based on the discussions that we will have on the sidelines I believe that we will come together and accept the fact that even though democracy is expensive it must resonate very well with all of us," he stated.
