Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) thronged the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra on Tuesday evening, following the arrest and detention of the party's Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Dozens of party loyalists, pitched camp at the precincts of EOCO demanding the release of Chairman Wontumi.
Their presence created a tense atmosphere, prompting a heightened police presence to prevent any escalation.
Wontumi was picked up by EOCO officials shortly after he honoured an invitation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) earlier in the day.
