Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga says the government is set to introduce a comprehensive legal framework to regulate the removal of justices of Ghana's superior courts, including the Chief Justice.
His announcement comes as suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo faces possible removal from office over allegations of misconduct-an episode that has reignited debate over ambiguities in the constitutional process for removing top judicial officers.
Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, May 27, during the House's first sitting after recess, Ayariga outlined the Mahama administration's legislative agenda, with a strong focus on judicial reforms.
He said the government is committed to upholding judicial independence while ensuring that mechanisms exist to hold judges accountable through a fair and transparent process.
