Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has called on Ghanaians to focus on demanding free and fair electoral processes rather than solely advocating for peace during elections.

The respected chief stated that the integrity of the electoral system is essential for maintaining peace and stability in the country.

During a public event after members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team paid him a courtesy visit on Monday, September 2, Togbe Afede emphasised that while peace is crucial, it is the fairness and transparency of elections that truly prevent violence and unrest.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant and to hold electoral bodies accountable to ensure that the pending elections are conducted fairly.

Togbe Afede also pointed out that when elections are transparent and credible, the likelihood of disputes and conflicts significantly decreases.

He encouraged Ghanaians to prioritize the integrity of the electoral process, stressing that a fair election is the foundation of a peaceful society. "Why is everybody talking about peace during and after the elections, and nobody is talking about free and fair elections, which will rather guarantee the peace we are all looking for?" he asked.

His remarks come amid rising political tensions ahead of the 2024 general elections, with various stakeholders calling for calm.
