The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed Fred Kwarteng, a local IT officer at Ghana's embassy in Washington D.C., after uncovering his central role in a fraudulent scheme.
This scheme diverted visa and passport applicants to a private company he secretly operated.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the sacking on Monday, May 26, 2025, in a post on X.
He described it as the first in a series of drastic actions taken with the firm backing of President John Dramani Mahama in response to the "damning findings" of a recent audit.
