The Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, has urged Ghanaians to rethink their approach to sanitation, emphasising that a collective change in mindset is necessary to tackle the country's worsening waste management issues.
Speaking on sanitation crisis on the Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, May 25, Nyarko revealed that the sanitation committee, which he is a member of had visited 10 district assemblies during the parliamentary recess, including Kumasi, Ejisu, and Korle Klottey.
He expressed deep concerns over the widespread littering of streets, describing the situation as alarming.
Nyarko noted that efforts to decongest major streets were initially aimed at reducing littering, but the return of traders to the streets of Accra was undermining the initiative. "We have to reset our minds that certain things cannot continue the way they used to," he stated, stressing that street vendors must take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness.
