The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has begun a decongestion exercise in the Central Business District (CBD) and other key parts of the capital city with the operation expected to extend to the Korle Klottey Municipality later today.
In the early hours of Tuesday, May 20, 2025, AMA task force, assisted by the Ghana Police Service, carried out a joint operation to dismantle makeshift stalls, unauthorised kiosks and remove vendors who have taken over pavements and other prohibited areas of the Central Business District.
The exercise is expected to clear unauthorised structures, enhance pedestrian movement and improve traffic flow.
It is also aimed at creating a more efficient and accessible environment for economic activities.
