The Institute of Internal Auditors Ghana (IIA) at the weekend organised a solidarity health walk in Tamale to mark this year's activities of Audit Month.It was also to promote aware­ness about the internal audit pro­fession and its role in enhancing governance and accountability.The solidarity walk brought together professionals, stake­holders, and government officials across the breath and length of the regionMr Sumaila Ewuntomah Abu­du, the Northern Regional Coor­dinating Director, urged auditors to maintain the confidentiality of documents within any govern­ment organisation following the walk.He said the importance of internal audit was to ensure trans­parency and effective management of resources in their respective departments.This, he emphasised, provid­ed opportunities for the internal auditors, government officials, and other stakeholders to discuss challenges, share best practices, and explore ways to strengthen internal audit functions in the region.Mr Abudu stated that the government support initiatives promote good governance and ac­countability in their various offices.The Coordinator Director added that the IIA Ghana demonstrates its commitment to inclusivity and regional outreach, fostering dialogue and collaboration between internal auditors and stakeholders across the country.In furtherance, he stated that the initiative by IIA is to connect with different regions in order to raise awareness about the essential func­tion of internal auditors in improv­ing governance, transparency, and accountability was commendable.He commended the internal auditors, especially the NRCC staff for their dedication to promoting transparency and accountability in the region.The President of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Ghana, Mr Joseph Dakora Zumasigee, applauded the organisers, the staff and other officials for participat­ing fully to realise the set goals of the solidarity walk.He said the role of internal au­ditors was multifaceted and critical to organisational success.Mr Zumasigee also mentioned that to maintain the integrity of the work, it was essential for internal auditors to conduct them­selves professionally.The IIA Ghana, he stressed, had also achieved significant milestones saying the institute, in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), obtained approval for full ICAG members to write the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) challenge exams.Mr Zumasigee stated that the approval had been extended for another year, covering the 2025-2026 CIA challenge exam window. FROM YAHAYA NUHU NADAA, TAMALE
