Prof Kwesi Aning, Head of the Office for International Cooperation at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has lauded Burkina Faso's President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, for embodying the optimism of Africa's post-independence era.
In an interview on Channel One TV's The Point of View on Monday May 19, Prof Aning remarked that Traoré "captures the optimism of the 1950s and early 1960s," a period when African leaders envisioned self-reliance and a renewed identity for the continent.
He further noted that Traoré combines this historical optimism with the "savviness of the modern contemporary leader of the Sankarist Rawlings mode," referring to the transformative leadership styles of Thomas Sankara and Jerry John Rawlings.
Prof Aning highlighted Traoré's efforts to transform Burkina Faso's economy, politics, and social identity through simple yet impactful interventions.
