Transport fares across the country will be reduced by 15% effective Saturday, May 24, 2025, following successful negotiations between transport unions and the Ministry of Transport.

The fare adjustment reflects recent macroeconomic improvements, particularly the sustained appreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar, which has led to a significant drop in fuel prices.

The decision also follows a call by the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, urging members to reduce prices of auto parts in response to the favourable exchange rate.

Confirming the development in an interview with Citi News, Abass Imoro, Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), said the reduction was necessary to align with current market conditions and provide relief to commuters. "We have finally agreed to reduce lorry fares by 15%, but it will take effect from Saturday.
