Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, according to a statement from his office on Sunday.

The 82-year-old was diagnosed last Friday after visiting a doctor the previous week due to urinary symptoms.

Medical assessments revealed an aggressive form of the disease with a Gleason score of 9 out of 10, indicating high-grade cancer with the potential to spread rapidly.

Biden's team says the cancer is hormone-sensitive and treatment options are being considered.
