Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Wontumi, has once again spotlighted his reputation as the party's financial backbone - but his recent revelations raise deeper questions about the growing influence of money in internal politics.
In an interview on Wontumi TV, the outspoken regional boss made a bold claim: "I paid for all polling station, constituency, and regional forms in 2014 and 2018, and in 2022, I did the same in Ashanti, even for my opponent." This extraordinary gesture, while framed as generosity, also points to an unusual concentration of power - one where financial might heavily influences the party's electoral landscape at all levels.
Chairman Wontumi didn't stop there.
He recalled bankrolling the party's 2015 Tamale congress with one billion old cedis and distributing school supplies across Ghana during the NPP's time in opposition.
