Contractors working on the Suame Interchange project have raised concerns about hawkers and traders taking over major streets and pavements along the construction corridor, hampering work and posing safety risks.
Already struggling with funding delays and unresolved issues such as the relocation of utility lines and compensation for affected persons, the contractors say the encroachment is further stalling progress.
Phase Two of the Suame Interchange project-which includes three overpasses and the widening of a 3.1-kilometre main road, plus an additional 15 kilometres of local roads-is nearing completion.
Construction is actively underway on the overpasses at Anomangye, Suame New Road, and Abusuakruwa, with contractors hopeful of completing them in the coming weeks.
