The Ghana Gold Board(GoldBod) has announced that three of the six foreign nationals arrested for gold smuggling will be deported, while the remaining three will be prosecuted under Ghana's new gold trading laws.

Spokesperson for the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Prince Minkah disclosed  this at a press conference held in Accra on Tuesday, May 14.

The six suspects were picked up in two separate operations.

The first group was arrested in the Ashanti Region before the enforcement of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), and ahead of the April 30 deadline for foreign nationals to exit Ghana's local gold trade. "They will be repatriated to their home country to reunite with their families," Minkah said adding "If you're a foreigner and caught trading gold illegally, you will face the law." While the first group is being shown leniency due to the timing of their arrest, the second batch will face full prosecution under the new legal framework.
