Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has described the dollar gift saga involving the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, as a "clear test case" for President John Dramani Mahama's Code of Conduct.
In an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Tuesday, May 13, he questioned the consistency and enforcement of the recently inaugurated ethical standards for public officials.
He stressed that respective provisions of the established Code of Conduct must be applied impartially to Sammy Gyamfi to prove the government's commitment to enforcing the Code of Conduct. "A specific Code of Conduct is established by the president himself aside from what the Public Service Code of Conduct and Ethical procedures are put through, so if the president is so minded and think that we must measure his appointee per the Code of Conduct, then this is a clear test case of Sammy Gyamfi.
According to him, Sammy Gyamfi previously criticised Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo for foreign currency expenditure, but has been seen recently displaying dollars himself, thus the need to hold him responsible for his conduct. "Clearly it is something we are worried about," he added. Don't let Sammy Gyamfi's dollar gift to Agradaa slide - Bekwai MP to Mahama
