President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government's commitment to reducing public debt while prioritising economic transformation.

He made this call at the African Union Debt Conference, which took place in Lomé, Togo.

In his capacity as the African Union's (AU) Champion on Financial Institutions, the President said debts should not become an obstacle to development.

Instead, it must be used as a means to create opportunities and build a strong foundation for future generations "Ghana is committed to rebuilding its fiscal buffers, strengthening our institutions and inclusive growth, but our fiscal consolidation must not come at the cost of social protection.
