Former Deputy General Secretary of the (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has called for a non-partisan approach to tackling illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking in on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Nana Obiri Boahen stated that illegal mining should not be politicized, noting that both the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP have failed to adequately address the menace. "Illegal mining is not a partisan matter.

It is a general problem we are facing as a country," he said.

He stressed that not all mining activities are illegal and expressed concern over the tendency to label licensed miners as galamsey operators. "When someone has a license to mine, why do we describe the person as an illegal miner?" he questioned, urging the public and media to make clear distinctions.
