The recent passing of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Mamponghene, has renewed attention on the Mamponghene's significant role as the occupant of the Silver Stool in the Ashanti Kingdom.

The Silver Stool, a symbol of immense traditional authority, designates the Mamponghene as the second-in-command to the Asantehene, the occupant of the Golden Stool, in the Ashanti hierarchy.

Rooted in Ashanti history, the Silver Stool represents the Mampong Traditional Area's pivotal role within Asanteman.

According to historical accounts, the Mamponghene's authority dates back to the early formation of the Ashanti Kingdom under Osei Tutu I, its founder, when Mampong emerged as a key ally in consolidating Asante power.
