The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, has urged embattled Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo to consider resigning from her position, even if she is ultimately exonerated from ongoing processes aimed at her removal from office.
Speaking on Pan African TV on May 10, 2025, regarding the controversies surrounding the Chief Justice's removal proceedings, the legislator asserted that her perceived biases towards the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been exposed. "Even after this process, if the CJ is exonerated, my advice to her is that she should resign," Suhuyini stated. "The conduct and the words of the NPP have compromised her.
Her partisan integrity has completely been compromised because of the way the NPP have behaved in this matter," he said.
The MP further contended that the NPP's alleged politicisation of the issue, coupled with the Chief Justice's apparent lack of discomfort with it, has led to a perception of bias among the public. "They have been playing politics with it, and she seems not to be uncomfortable with that.
