In a bold move to combat illegal mining, the Ellembelle District Chief Executive (DCE), Joseph Agyekum, in collaboration with the District Police Command, has arrested two Chinese nationals and nine individuals posing as National Security operatives.

The suspects were apprehended on Monday, May 6, 2025, at Mile 3 in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, during a swoop by a special operations team set up by the DCE.

In an exclusive interview with 's Western Regional Correspondent, the DCE, who also chairs the District Security Council (DISEC), stated, "We will not tolerate any form of illegal mining in Ellembelle.

Our district will be a hub for responsible mining and a no-go area for galamseyers." He further emphasised, "We will move at our own pace-assiduously-but without pressure or influence from any quarters to tackle this 8-year-old menace." Agyekum reaffirmed his administration's stance, declaring that Ellembelle District would remain a no-go area for illegal miners as long as he remains in office. "This operation demonstrates the district's commitment to enforcing regulations and protecting the environment.
