The Ghana Police Service has revealed that families of two kidnapped victims paid a total of GHS18,000 to various phone numbers linked to the suspects in an attempt to secure their release.

According to DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at a presser on Tuesday May 6, the victims, Anastasia Badoo Atta and Serwaa Konadu, were lured into a romance scam by suspects posing as white men on Facebook.

The victims, convinced by the fraudulent marriage proposals, traveled separately to Nigeria, only to be kidnapped upon arrival on April 22, 2025.

The kidnappers, led by Peter Okoye and his two accomplices, subjected the victims to severe physical abuse, stripping them naked, tying them up, and assaulting them with cutlasses.
