The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has declared persons engaged in illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, as "terrorists".
He cautioned that persons caught engaged in galamsey will be treated the same way as individuals who violate the country's territorial integrity to attack citizens. "It is the policy of the government of Ghana that galamsey be considered as environmental terrorism.
Galamsey threatens our very future," he said, giving firm assurance that the government would do all it could to safeguard the environment.
According to him, the government intends to wage the battle for as long as it takes.
