Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro, Bright Ofori Ampofo, has defended Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin following a confrontation with a police officer during the "Save The Judiciary" protest.

Afenyo-Markin was captured in a widely circulated video appearing visibly agitated while engaging with officers behind a barricade during the demonstration on Monday, May 5.

Explaining the incident in an interview with Channel One Newsroom, Ofori Ampofo alleged that the MP only reacted after first being physically attacked by an officer. "Just when we were about to cross the barricade, this police officer charged, bowed, made a fist, and hit him [Afenyo-Markin] on the heart [chest]," he recounted.

According to Ampofo, the impact nearly caused Afenyo-Markin to lose consciousness, forcing a pause in the protest. "The honourable member almost passed out.
