The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its allies have officially petitioned the Judiciary, seeking its support in urging President John Dramani Mahama to rescind his decision to remove Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo.

During the presentation of the petition, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin urged the judiciary staff to support the political parties in ensuring justice and fairness in the judicial arm of government.

He cautioned the Acting Chief Justice and other service members against being too comfortable with the current situation, warning that the trend of removing Chief Justices and Superior Court judges with each change in government breeds bitterness in the system.

Afenyo-Markin emphasised the need for the judiciary to approach this trend with solidarity. "For you, the Judiciary to rise, don't be comfortable because it is Torkornoo.
