The has secured the conviction of five armed robbers involved in a series of robbery and carjacking incidents in the Ashanti Region.
The convicts, identified as Jeffrey Dwomoh, Clifford Opoku, Kwabena Kyei Barfour, Prince Opuni, and Henry Kusi Marfo, were arrested in 2023 alongside two other suspects: Richard Dogbatsey and William Ansah, who were later acquitted of abetment charges.
Jeffrey Dwomoh and Clifford Opoku were found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, receiving sentences of 120 years imprisonment each with hard labor.
Kwabena Kyei Barfour was convicted of dishonestly receiving, and has been sentenced to 105 years imprisonment with hard labor.
Prince Opuni was found guilty of reckless and inconsiderate driving and was fined 350 penalty units or sentenced to 10 months in prison with hard labor in default.
He was also ordered to pay GH¢5,000.00 for damaging a police vehicle.
Henry Kusi Marfo, convicted of supplying ammunition to facilitate robbery, was fined 1,050 penalty units or sentenced to 15 months in prison with hard labor in default, which he has since paid.
The police, in a Facebook post, released the convicts' photos and clarified that they are no longer suspects but convicted criminals.
