Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga has dismissed claims by Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin that President John Mahama is scheming for a third term, accusing him instead of sowing that idea he claims to oppose.
Speaking on Citi Prime News, Ayariga rubbished the allegation, insisting that no such agenda exists within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and that it is rather Afenyo-Markin who is fueling public speculation. "I think he is the one who is putting the idea of a quest for a third term in the minds of Ghanaians.
I'm not sure I have heard people discussing that, neither have I heard NDC strategists even considering that.
But with what he's doing, he is the one actually putting the idea in people's head." The Bawku Central MP noted that debates around Mahama's eligibility have long been settled, referencing earlier efforts by critics who questioned his qualification to contest after serving a term and losing re-election in 2016. "If you'll recall, the question of whether or not John Mahama can contest a third term came up even before he filed his nomination to contest elections," Ayariga stated.
