During the 2025 May Day celebrations at Independence Square in Accra, Organised Labour expressed deep disappointment over the worsening galamsey (illegal mining) situation under the current administration of President .

In a direct address to the President, representatives of Organised Labour raised serious concerns about the escalating environmental destruction, including the ongoing degradation of forests and water bodies as a result of illegal mining activities.

They emphasised that, despite the government's stated efforts, the menace has worsened just five months into President Mahama's tenure. "We in Organised Labour are surprised that, five months into your reign, the galamsey menace is getting worse," a representative stated. "The destruction of our environment, including our forests and water bodies, is increasing rapidly." The group urged the President to demonstrate stronger leadership in addressing the issue, stressing the need for urgent and decisive action to halt illegal mining, which continues to devastate Ghana's natural resources. "We expect your government to immediately revoke, not amend, the legislative instrument," the group added, referencing the earlier decision by former President Mahama's administration to suspend Legislative Instrument (LI) 2462, which regulates mining operations.

Organised Labour also reminded President Mahama that it holds a letter from his predecessor explicitly suspending the instrument in a bid to mitigate the worsening impact of galamsey on the environment.
