President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government's resolve to promote decent work, economic recovery, and social equity as Ghana commemorates May Day 2025.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, President Mahama saluted Ghanaian workers for their enduring contributions to the country's progress, calling them the "engine of our economy, the builders of our infrastructure, and the innovators who propel us forward." He described their resilience and dedication as vital to national development and expressed confidence in the role of labour in rebuilding the nation.
Reflecting on this year's theme-"Striving for Peace and Stability to Drive Industrialisation, Trade, and Decent Work for Social Justice"-President Mahama said the message aligns with his administration's priority to pursue inclusive economic growth and uphold labour rights. "My government recognises and deeply values the pivotal role of the Ghanaian worker in driving our national development agenda," he said, adding that his administration is focused on creating an enabling environment for workers to thrive and help "Reset Ghana." He outlined progress made within the first four months of his return to office, citing measures to stabilise the economy, support industrialisation through value addition, and drive job creation-particularly in light manufacturing and related sectors.
President Mahama also pointed to expanding trade partnerships within Africa and beyond as part of a broader push to open up markets for Ghanaian businesses.
