The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has directed the immediate use of seized galamsey excavators to be used for desilting and dredging works within the New Juaben North and South Municipalities following a downpour in the regional capital, Koforidua.

Several homes and shops at Nsukwao, Asokore, Zongo, in Koforidua were submerged following the four-hour downpour last night.

The Eastern Regional Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the main road linking the Eastern Regional National Fire Service Command were not left out of the havoc caused by the rains.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, who visited some affected areas together with the NADMO and Urban Roads Engineers to assess the extent of damage, outlined some short-term measures to mitigate the situation, and directed the immediate use of the seized galamsey excavators to begin dredging works.
