Special Aide to President John Mahama, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, has strongly criticised the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) over its recent statement condemning the suspension of the Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, describing the Association's position as overreaching and politically charged.

Reacting to the GBA's statement, which expressed concerns about the constitutional basis and potential implications of the Chief Justice's suspension, Bawa questioned the Association's authority in interpreting constitutional matters and accused it of resorting to media threats rather than legal channels. "Who has invited the Bar to interpret the Constitution!

And who says that threats from the Bar can manipulate a constitutional process?" she wrote in a social media post.

She challenged the GBA to pursue its concerns through legal means if it believes its arguments are constitutionally sound: "If indeed the Bar is convinced that its case is on Terra Firma, then instead of empty public rants and threats, they should go to court." Bawa's comments reflect growing tensions following the suspension of the Chief Justice by the President, a move the government claims is backed by constitutional provisions.
