The Managing Director of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Abraham Amaliba, has urged the public not to be alarmed by plans to legalise the commercial use of motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, stating that the law will come with strict regulations and safety measures.
His assurance follows ongoing discussions surrounding the legalisation of Okada operations in Ghana.
In March 2025, the NRSA outlined a series of safety and regulatory measures to be implemented once Parliament approves the move.
A 13-member committee established by Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe is currently reviewing Section 128 (1), (2), and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulations 2012 (L.I. 2180), which prohibits commercial motorcycle and tricycle transport.
