The occupant of the Sil­ver Stool of the Asante Kingdom, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, has passed on, after 26 years of reign as the Para­mount Chief of Mampong, in the Ashanti Region.This came out when the Mampong Traditional Council and Bretuo Dynasty formally announced the demise to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace on Monday.Led by Mamponghemaa, Nana Agyakoma Dufie II, the solemn delegation fulfilled the sacred cultural obligation at Manhyia Palace, marking the conclusion of a distinguished traditional leadership.Daasebre, who served as Vice President of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs and occupied the prestigious Silver Stool as second-in-command in the Asante Kingdom's tradition­al hierarchy, was 86 years old.His 26-year reign leaves an indelible mark on Ghana's chief­taincy institution.

He died on April 21, this year.Born on December 31, 1939, as Oswald Gyimah-Kessie, the late Mamponghene brought his expertise as both lawyer and economist to his royal duties.Before ascending to the throne, he served with distinc­tion as Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.Throughout his reign, Daase­bre Osei Bonsu II was celebrat­ed for his diplomatic acumen and unwavering commitment to his people.His final public appearance occurred during the recent Akwasidae festival in Mampong, where he demonstrated his dedication to unity by speaking against attempts to sow tribal division regarding the Municipal Chief Executive selection by the NDC Party.The Asante Kingdom now awaits funeral arrangements for this respected leader, which are expected to be announced in the coming days. FROM YAHAYA NUHU NA­DAA, YENDI
