The Minority in has issued a strong condemnation of the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo by President John Dramani Mahama, describing the action as a serious affront to the independence of the Judiciary.

Addressing the media, Deputy Minority Chief Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib criticised the suspension as a blatant case of Executive overreach and a deliberate attempt to undermine the Judiciary's autonomy.

He stressed that the integrity and independence of Ghana's judicial system are non-negotiable pillars of democracy and called for the immediate reinstatement of Chief Justice Torkornoo, pending the final determination of constitutional challenges currently before the Supreme Court.

The Minority also demanded a complete suspension of all removal proceedings against the Chief Justice until the Supreme Court rules conclusively on the legality and constitutionality of the process.
