President John Mahama has directed the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately promote all eligible education directors.
The Minister of Education, , announced this during the launch of a free sanitary pad initiative on April 24, 2025, stating that the president's directive aims to address the struggles of deputy directors in moving up the ladder due to unavailability of office spaces. "President has directed the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to give all those deputy directors a legitimate promotion," Iddrisu stated.
The promoted individuals will serve in their new capacities as directors of GES even without office spaces. "One of your major concerns, the president raised to me, is that in his campaign rounds, many of you who are deputy directors of education struggle to move up the ladder to become directors of education because of the unavailability of office spaces," he said, according to adomonline.com.
This development comes amid a looming nationwide strike by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) by April 30 over unresolved issues affecting teachers.
