Following Nollywood actress and producer Bimbo Ademoye's viral outburst against Ghanaian television stations for airing her movies without permission, Ghanaian actress and producer Juliet Ibrahim has also come forward to share her own frustrating experience with piracy in the local media space. In a strongly worded statement posted to her social media platforms, Juliet expressed deep disappointment over what she described as the continuous disregard for intellectual property rights by certain TV stations operating in Ghana.
She specifically called out Pemsan TV for illegally broadcasting films originally uploaded to her official YouTube channel, Juliet Ibrahim Studios."As an independent filmmaker, actress, director, and producer, I find it extremely disheartening to witness the blatant disregard for intellectual property rights," she wrote. "Despite repeated efforts by my management and legal representatives-who have sent cease and desist letters, contacted these networks directly, and offered an opportunity for a formal resolution-Pemsan TV and others have continued to air my work unlawfully." Juliet revealed that her team had done everything possible to stop the unauthorized broadcasts, but the networks involved have refused to comply.
She noted that this issue goes beyond her personal experience and stands in solidarity with her Nigerian colleagues, Bimbo Ademoye and Omoni Oboli, who have both spoken out in recent weeks. "This is not just a Nigerian issue; it is an African issue," she emphasized. "And as a Ghanaian, I am ashamed that our local media houses are playing a central role in such unethical and illegal activities." Labeling piracy as theft, Juliet stressed that the practice undermines the hard work, creativity, and financial investment of filmmakers and everyone involved in the production chain.
She called on the relevant authorities-such as the National Communications Authority (NCA), Ghana Copyright Office, National Film Authority, Ghana Police Service, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture-to act swiftly to address the issue.Meanwhile, Juliet's comments come amid growing online discussions sparked by Bimbo Ademoye's video, in which she angrily warned Ghanaian TV stations to stop airing her films without consent.
