A joint anti-galamsey taskforce has recovered two pump action guns, 30 excavators, and other equipment during a raid on six mining sites linked to Akonta Mining Limited.
The operation was conducted on April 17, 2025, at Samreboi, in the Ashanti Region.
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, during a press briefing on April 21, 2025, indicated that they embarked on the operation after they got a tip-off about the activities of Akonta Mining in the restricted forest in the enclave. "Armed with this intel, on the eve of Good Friday (17th April 2025) an intelligence-led operation by the Ghana Police Service and the Forestry Commission led to the raid of six illegal mining sites linked to Akonta Mining," he said.
The minister has since revoked the license of Akonta Mining Limited following the raid. "The operation in Compartment 49, which began at 5 a.m.
