President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has opened the Second International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEC) 2024, right here in Accra, at the Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, August 28. The gathering brings together key stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to discuss and find solutions to the contemporary security challenges that confront us. President Akufo-Addo said it is proof of African governments' commitment to peace, security and stability in Africa. He said that Africa, despite its remarkable strides in economic growth and political stability, still faces a range of complex security threats that require our urgent attention.
"From terrorism and violent extremism to organized crime, maritime piracy, and cyber threats, these challenges are becoming more sophisticated and interconnected. We must confront them with a coordinated and comprehensive approach.
"No single country can tackle these threats alone; it is only through enhanced regional cooperation and intelligence sharing that we can hope to overcome them and safeguard our future," he wrote on Facebook after opening the ceremony.
