Legal scholar, Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare has criticised what he sees as hypocrisy and selective outrage in the debate over the potential removal of Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo.

In a social media post, the US-based Ghanaian academic questioned why some are calling for patience and caution in handling allegations against the Chief Justice when previous officeholders were removed under similar circumstances. "Time will tell nothing," he wrote, adding "We have always insisted on punishing wrongdoers." He pointed to the 2015 removal of CHRAJ boss Lauretta Lamptey, which followed a petition from then-MP Frank Annoh-Dompreh and was acted upon by President John Mahama, despite Lamptey being an NDC appointee.

He also cited the 2018 dismissal of Electoral Commission Commissioner Georgina Opoku Amankwah under the Akufo-Addo administration after anonymous petitions. "What exactly has changed?" Prof.

Asare asked.
