Mobile money fraud, particularly involving MTN MoMo accounts, continues to rise steadily in Ghana despite ongoing public education and awareness campaigns.

What was once considered an occasional scam has now become a widespread and persistent threat affecting people from all walks of life-including families of public officials.   Speaking on Joy News' PM Express, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Hon.

Samuel Nartey George, shared a deeply personal story about how his own mother became a victim of mobile money fraud shortly after his appointment.According to the minister, scammers defrauded his mother of ₵24,000 using a manipulative trick designed to sound legitimate.  "In my poor mother's case, just after I was appointed minister, they called her that they were trying to secure and protect her account now that her son is a minister.

So they asked her to verify her MoMo PIN and went on with other sweet talk.
