Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has called on political parties and the public to refrain from politicising the efforts of mayors to decongest major cities nationwide.
His remarks follow widespread backlash against the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, who recently proposed capital punishment for traders occupying pavements in the city's central business district.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, April 16, Suame MP, John Darko criticised the tendency of political parties to exploit such situations for partisan gain, often undermining the efforts of mayors working to restore order.
He stressed the need to depoliticise urban congestion challenges, calling for a measured, non-partisan approach that empowers local authorities to deliver on their mandates. "We need to stop politicising these things.
