Channel One News has gathered that the Nwii River, which runs through Nkawkaw Amanfrom and nearby communities in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region, is being heavily exploited by illegal miners.
These miners have taken over the riverbanks and are operating around the clock, leaving the water heavily polluted.
Once a vital clean water source for residents and farmers, the river is now contaminated and under serious environmental threat.
The unfortunate incident has led to the contamination of wells and boreholes dug by residents in the area, a situation they believe is threatening their well-being and may possibly lead to an outbreak.
