The has disclosed that its next government would recruit 25,000 additional security personnel as part of efforts to ensure the success of the 24-hour economy if the party wins the December 2024 elections. Speaking at a recent press briefing at the party's headquarters, the NDC's manifesto spokesperson on security, Peter Lanchene Toobu, reaffirmed the party's commitment to implement the 24-hour economy.
"We will develop a comprehensive security and safety programme to support the implementation of one of the most famous, if not the famous, or the star programme or policy of the NDC government come January 7, 2025, the 24-hour economy policy.
"We are going to recruit 25,000 officers, 25,000 men, to add to the existing strength so that we have the capacity to police the policy of the 24-hour economy," he stated. The NDC also stated that other measures would be put in place to modernise and reform the security services to enable them to effectively address contemporary security threats. The 24-hour economy is a deliberate policy intervention by the next NDC government to encourage and support certain businesses and companies to operate 24/7, preferably in a three-shift system of 8-hour search, by creating an enabling environment that promotes productivity, competitiveness, and well-paying jobs for Ghanaians.
