Member of Parliament for Daboya-Mankarigu Constituency, Mahama Shaibu, has announced that the current system of Assembly members voting to approve Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) is set to change.

According to him, Parliament's Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee is finalizing a bill to allow the general public in various districts to directly elect their MMDCEs, making this the last time assembly members will be involved in the approval process.

He made this revelation during the confirmation of the North Gonja District Chief Executive, Abdulai Nashiru, who unanimously obtained 100 per cent (100%) endorsement from both the assembly members and government appointees. "The Regional Minister was very charitable when he said this may be the last time we will endorse a DCE.

Today, I can say on authority as the chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament that this will be the last time that we will endorse the DCE. "Indeed, in the next round, we would elect DCEs just as we elect Members of Parliament.
