An Associate Professor at the University of Ghana School of Law, Dr.
Kwadwo Appiagyei-Atua, has slammed the Kumasi Mayor's proposed crackdown on street trading as "lazy" and unconstitutional.
His remarks follow a controversial directive by Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, who gave traders on Kumasi's pavements a two-week ultimatum to vacate or face sanctions - including the threat of being lashed. "I have my own military-democratic style which I will be implementing.
When we say leave the space, and you don't leave the space and I get there, and you're not there and my boys are with me, there and there we will beat you," the Mayor warned.
