The Ghana Police Service has issued a strict ban on the movement of personnel to Bawku and its surrounding areas following the fatal shooting of two police officers at Poyamirea, near Binduri in the Upper East Region.
In a confidential wireless message signed by J.W.
Darison, the Assistant Commissioner of Police for the Upper East Region, commanders at all divisions, districts, and units were instructed to halt any movement of officers to the area with immediate effect. "Ban on movement of personnel to Bawku," the memo stressed, adding that the decision follows "a dangerous development in Bawku and its environs." The directive further indicated that both indigenes and non-indigenes, including their families in Binduri and Pusiga, should not be moved into the area.
It emphasized the safety of personnel, stating that those already deployed for operations in these hotspots "should ensure they put on appropriate PPEs and are under armoured escort." The ban comes just days after tensions boiled over in Bawku.
