The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Atamugri Atanga, has dismissed calls for a state of emergency in Bawku despite renewed violence in the area, insisting the situation does not warrant such a measure.

The latest unrest, sparked by a confrontation between police and some youth, resulted in fatalities, injuries, and the burning of the Member of Parliament's house.

Amid growing calls for the government to declare a state of emergency, the Minister maintains that the conflict is being addressed through traditional means. "It has been referred to an eminent chief to handle," he said.

Providing further context, he explained: "It is not like sporadic, where every day they are fighting each other.
